S.P.Pandey,Chandigarh, Mar 31: Former Civil Aviation Minister and BSP leader Mr Harmohan Dhawan has given 24 hours ultimatum to the police to arrest the accused Congress office bearers, including Youth Congress president Harmohinder Singh Lucky and Councillor Devinder Singh Babla, who manhandled dalit women at SBS Colony of Mauli Jagran today moring.
BSP workers led by Mr Harmohan Dhawan gheraoed the Mauli Jagran Police Post and the Mani Majra police station to protest against the police inaction under the pressure of Minister of State for Finance Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal. BSP leader Mr Dhawan threatened of initiating Jail Bharo drive if police fails to arrest the accused.
BSP Colony Cell general secretary Mr Sada Sawan Lahri filed a DDR at the Mauli Jagran police post alleging that Mr Bansal visited the SBS Colony at 7 AM today for poll campaigning on the pretext of Pad Yatra. The residents questioned Mr Bansal that what he had done for them during his last 15 years tenure as member of Parliament. They asked Mr Bansal that why he did not fulfil his promise of removing contractual system, issueing SC and ST certificates to the eligible people in Chandigarh and why he did not provide them pucca houses? The Congress peole got annoyed over such queries and pushed back the women. They also abused the Dalit women. Sensing trouble Mr Bansal disappeared from the scene, while the locals got hold of the accused Congress office bearers and took them to the police post.
It is alleged that the police, instead of arresting the culprits, arrested the BSP supporters including several women. Following which Mr Dhawan and large crowd gheraoed the police station. On registering the DDR, Mr Dhawan came back. However, the police did not release the arrested BSP supporters. Irritated by such highhandedness, Mr Dhawan again reached the Mani Majra police station and threatened of initiating jail bharo andolan if action was not taken within 24 hours.
