Chandigarh: April 29: Punjab Congress today alleged the Ruling SAD BJP Government of misuse of Government vehicles and violation of Model Code of Conduct. In two separate communications to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the Chief Spokesman of Punjab Congress S. Bir Devinder Singh alleged that S. Parkash Singh Badal has made announcements regarding positioning of Central University at Amritsar yesterday in brazen violation of the Code of Conduct. Mr. Singh said that the central university is a Central project meant for Amritsar only and the Chief Minister just can not announce that it will be set up in Ferozepur or Amritsar.
In another communication Mr. Bir Devinder Singh has alleged that Government vehicles with Red Beacons atop are being used by Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mayor and Deputy Mayors which is also violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He demanded from the Election Commission to send Observers immediately to check this brazen violation of Code. He said that though the Election Code has been imposed by the Election Commission of India in Amritsar District only but the Election Code is in force in whole Punjab State because of the Elections of Panchayti Raj Institutions scheduled for 12th of May, 2008. He said that State Election Commission should also ensure observance of Model Code of Conduct by all political parties to ensure free and fair elections to the grass-root institutions of democracy in the Country.
