Sanjay Pahwa, Chandigarh: Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide judgment dated 27 April 2012 in writ petition (Civil) No. 265 of 2011 has imposed complete ban on the use of black film of any visual light transmission (VLT) percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses wind screen (front & rear) and side glasses of all vehicles throughout the country. The manufacturer of the vehicle may manufacture the vehicles with tinted glasses, which have visual light transmission (VLT) of safety glasses wind screen (front & rear) as 70 per cent VLT and side glasses as 40 per cent VLT, respectively. The competent officer of the traffic Police or any other authorized person shall challan such vehicle for violating rule 92 and 100 of the rules with effect from the specified date and thereupon shall also remove the black films from the offending vehicles. The directions has been enforced with effect from 4thMay 2012.
All residents of Chandigarh, owners and drivers of the vehicles are hereby informed if anyone using film on the glasses of their vehicles shall get it removed immediately, otherwise, he will be prosecuted as per rule.
