The India Post, Chandigarh 2nd August, 2008:The Panjab University Ecological Society members, led by the Vice-Chancellor, went round cleaning the campus, market and residential areas early in the morning here today.
On noticing a large number of non-biodegradable used wrappers, the Vice-Chancellor felt concerned to note that the contents of some of those wrappers could be carrying carcinogenic substance. He asked his fellow enthusiastic colleagues to spread awareness so that vulnerable / ignorant users could be saved from hazardous substances. He also appealed to the shopkeepers to ensure that they do not sell anything which could cause health problems. The shopkeepers should keep their areas clean, polythene and litter free.
The Vice-Chancellor exhorted the residents to come forward, involve their families and neighbours in making Panjab University Campus a frontrunner in the city so that others could emulate them.
