CHANDIGARH- December 15, 2008: On the 3rd day of the 24th North Zone Inter University Youth Festival being organized by Panjab University in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India witness loads of cultural and artistic activities.
Total 8 events were held at 4 venues at Panjab University Campus. The events of Mime & Mimicry and One Act Play were held at Law Auditorium, the competitions of Light Vocal Solo and Classical Instrumental Solo (Non -Percussion) were held at English Auditorium, and the Debate and Poetry Recitation Competitions were organized at Evening Studies Auditorium and Fine Arts Museum was the venue for On the Spot Painting and Collage Making Competition
Total 14 teams participated in the Mime and gave meaningful messages through their presentations. G. N.D.U., Amritsar presented mine on mother, G. A. D.V. A. S. U., Ludhiana presented mine on role of Technology, L. P. U. Phagwara presented “ Eklavya ki Kahani”, C. D. L. U., Sirsa highlighted the ills in our society relating to religion, Dowry, marriage, etc., University of Jammu presented mime on Female Foeticide, M.D. U., Rohtak presented mime on rising use of mobile phone in present day scenario, K.U, Kurukshetra presented showcased modern Daropadi , J. M. U., Delhi highlighted the importance of Friendship, P. A. U. , Ludhiana showcased comparison between by gone years of peace and recent looming threat of terrorism on India, Punjabi University, Patiala gave the message of Unity & Strength through their performance, P.T. U. Jallandhar emphasized on the freedom of the girls and women empowerment.
Total 15 teams participated in Mimicry. The participants mimicked the famous Hero’s and Heroines beside that few participants mimicked the voices of Birds from animal kingdom.
A participant from University of Jammu presented the item based on Fake encounter and the item from C.C.S.U., Meerut with mimicry of birds was very much appreciated by the audience.
Total 08 teams participated in the One Act Play. Kumaun University, Nainital presented the play titled “Panch lett”, K.U, Kurukshetra performed “ Vir Nirupam”, C. D. L. U., Sirsa presented play titled “Puttr –bali”, J. M. U., Delhi presented play named “ Mera Kya Kasoor” .
Total 17 teams participated in the Light Vocal Solo .The participating teams performed Geet, Bhajan and Ghazals. And total 06 teams participated in the Classical Instrumental Solo (Non -Percussion) The PU performed “Raag Rageshwari on Sitar” , Kurukshetra University performed “ Raag Yaman on Sitar, PTU, Jallandhar performed Raag Kalyan on Harmonium, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar performed Charu Keshi on Santoor, Pbi. University, Patiala performed Raag Bagheshwari on Sitar, H.P.U., Shimla performed Shudh Saraang on Sitar.
Total 15 teams participated in the Debate. The participants were given the topic of “Youth is more venerable to HIV/ AIDS. ” And total 15 teams participated in the Poetry Recitation. The participants were given three themes for Poetic Recitation. The topics were “ Hamme Naaz Hai..” , “Isse Jawani Kahtey hain..”, Mere Sapno ka Bharat.”
Total 17 teams participated in the On the Spot Painting competition and total 16 teams participated in the Collage Making Competition on the theme of Terror Attack on Mumbai. The participants showcased their creativity according to Dr. S. M. Kant, Director Youth Welfare, P.U.
