1 Sep : Concerned about the rise of diseases like cholera, swine flue, eye flue etc. in the city, children of Manav Mangal High School, Sector 21-C, Chandigarh took the initiative to make the people of slums aware about importance of cleanliness and hygiene. They visited the slums of Hallomajra and advised the people to throw the litter in the dustbins instead of throwing it here and there. They created awareness amongst the people and guided them not to let the water stagnate anywhere as it acts a breeding place for mosquitoes. They also gave people tips about personal hygiene. They advised them to wash their hands with soap and water frequently, cover the nose and mouth while sneezing & coughing and to consult a doctor immediately as soon as symptoms of fever are seen. Besides this they also lent a helping hand to them by providing them with soaps, clothes and toothpaste. The entire project was managed by the teacher incharge Mrs. Bhupinder Kaur and the student head Ms. Poornima Bansal. The project, according to the Principal was one of the outreach programmes ‘Masoom’ conducted on regular basis by manav mangal students.
