Chandigarh, September 18: The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Prerna Puri, flagged off the INTACH “CLEAN AND GREEN WALK” on the lake promenade at 7 am today being organized by INTACH Chandigarh Chapter, Around 100 people from the different walks of life assembled at Sukhna Lake on early Sunday morning to participate in a heritage walk which had a participation of eminent citizens, students and members of INTACH Chapter. The heritage walk was held to highlight the present condition of nearly 100 heritage trees including those at the lake.The participants included old bureaucrats, tree and environment lovers and school students walked around 4 kilometres at the Sukhna Lake to express their concern for the cause. Called Clean and Green Walk, the event was held to create public awareness regarding the preservation of the old heritage trees. To highlight the pollution free environment and to maintain the green cover in the city, the former principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture, Prof. Rajnish Wattas delivered a lecture on the old trees of Sukhna Lake on the occasion and highlighted the importance of trees and Green coverage in Chandigarh which has helped the city to have a high level of pollution free environment specially Sukhna Lake.
While the students of Government College of Arts, Sector 10 took part in a poster competition near the oldest heritage tree at the Sukhna Lake. Apart from this, Chandigarh INTACH also exhibited these Posters at CITCO’S Cafertia for visitors to rendezvous with the rich heritage trees of Chandigarh which were well appreciated by the public.
