Chandigarh–Nov 12–Chandigarh small in size but big at work. City has been leaving its footprints on the national canvass in many fields. The State NSS cell, Chandigarh Administration has added another feather in its cap while it has clinched three awards under the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS Awards for the year 2013-14.
For his outstanding work in popularize NSS activites in the region, Rakesh Dahiya, NSS Programme Officer has been awarded the ‘Best Programme Officer’ category. In the best NSS unit category, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-38(West) walked away with the ‘Best NSS Unit’ in the country, an award which is conferred to only 10 units in whole of the country.
Adding to list of awards, Ms. Shelly, of the Post Graduate Govt. College, Sector 42 has been selected in the ‘Best NSS Volunteer’ category.
Indira Gandhi NSS Awards are being given by the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India to recognize the voluntary service rendered by NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, NSS Units and the University NSS Cells. All the winners would be awarded by the Honorable President of India at the function to be organised at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 19th November.
Elated over the news, Sandeep Hans, Director Higher Education said “The remarkable achievement has been scripted by dedicated efforts, innovative policies, aggressive involvement of staff. A leg up from the Administration has seen NSS transform itself to an effective organization.” Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer (NSS Cell) said “It is a great achievement and it would motivate us to work harder. Chandigarh has outperformed many big states and UTs. Chandigarh would continue to strive for excellence, so that these awards come to Chandigarh in future also”.
At present there are 136 NSS units in Chandigarh where more than 15000 volunteers are working for the betterment of the society.
