The India Post, Chandigarh, August 23:Chandigarh city which has to its credit taking a lead at national level in starting Peace Clubs in Schools, is now all set to host 3rd International Students Peace Festival in the city from September 28 to October 1, 2008. The event will be organized jointly by Education Department, Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti, New Delhi, CYP Asia Centre, KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, NSS Unit of DAV College, The Gurukul School & YUVSATTA.
Giving information about the intuitive Mr. SK Setia, DPI (Schools) said that around 250 Students from Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Iran and different states of India are invited to participate. And such events provide a platform for increased cross-fertilization of ideas through greater interaction among the students. Such Festivals are occasion when young people come together and have a party to celebrate peace! Anything fun that holds up the worth of persons, friendship, and harmony is appropriate for Students Peace Festival. And good part of the programme is that visiting students will be reaching city beautiful Chandigarh on World Tourism Day.
The Co-convener of the Programme Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Principal of KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, Sector 7 told that around 55 students from different parts of Pakistan and 12 from Nepal, alongwith students from Tamilnadu, Karnatka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab & Himachal Pradesh will be coming to participate in this event. The significant thing which makes this Peace Festival unique is that students coming from outside will be staying with a local student of their age and gender for greater understanding, sharing of ideas and dreams. Through out the day they all together will be involved in lots of activities, games, Paintings, Kite flying, cultural programmes, a special light & sound show of Ramlila and sight-seeing.
Mr. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta (an NGO) which is organizing such events every year and is promoting Gandhian values amongst young students through Peace Clubs in Schools shared that the benefits of Student’s Peace Festivals are many, they are a catalyst for people to get involved in their community and make a difference. Prominent personalities who’ll be participating in this programme includes Mr. Sriparkash Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State for Finance & Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab & Haryana, High Court, Mr. HS Matewal, Advocate General Haryana, Mr. Hawa Singh Hooda, Advocate General, Haryana.
