Chandigarh, September 23rd: Chandigarh Administration has geared up for the implementation of Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 in the near future. Sh. Ram Niwas, IAS Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration who is the Commissioner Food Safety presided over the meeting in which the preparedness of the Chandigarh Administration was discussed. Final touches are being given to the various Notifications and Instructions to be issued for implementing the same. Under this act the quantum of fine and imprisonment will be deterrent for any body supplying unhealthy/ unhygienic and adulterated food. The licensing will be however streamlined and even the petty shopkeepers will be registered under the new Act. The Adjudicating Officer who will of the rank of Additional District Magistrate shall levy fine and recover the same. Till such time this act is implemented the provisions of the PFA Act, 1954 shall continue to be implemented to ensure unadulterated /hygienic and healthy food to the citizens of the Chandigarh especially keeping in view the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
