The India Post, Chandigarh, 1st January,2009 :UT Home Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas inaugurated the Week at Chandigarh Traffic Park, Sector 23 today. The theme of the week is ‘Carefully Drive, Reach Alive’.
Mr. Ram Niwas on the occasion said that lately there has been tremendous increase in the number of vehicles, which has increased the traffic density on roads. Thus, keeping this in view, he emphasized Voluntary participation of people as essential to tackle the problem related to violation of traffic rules.
Mr. Niwas informed that in the wake of the growing traffic congestion on roads, 11 underpasses would be built in the Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg. Speed governors will also be installed in the School buses as well as CTU buses. He further stated that all auto-rickshaws would be replaced by LPG driven auto-rickshaws by August, 2009. Mr. Niwas requested people to bring children at the Traffic Park so, that they can get acquainted with the traffic rules.
DIG Headquarters, Mr. Mahabir Singh impressed on the self-regulation of public. He requested the public to follow the traffic rules while driving. SP Traffic and Security, Mr. H.S. Doon explained the programmes which would be organized during the week. He said that cooperation and support of public is essential in the observance of traffic rules.
The main aim of the week is to sensitize and educate the people regarding traffic rules and to promote safe driving habits in city residents. Exhibition on Road Safety, Painting Competition on Traffic Rules, Blood Donation Camp were organized today. General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation, Mr. R.K. Sharma was the Guest of the Honour in the inaugural function.
Registering and Licensing Authority, Ms. Niharika Rai, SSP, Chandigarh, Mr. S.S. Srivastava and other senior officials of the Administration and Police were present on the occasion.
