Chandigarh, November 23rd : With the theme Dreamland, “The Chandigarh Carnival-2012” got off to a magnificent start at the Leisure Valley today. The mega fest was inaugurated by Sh.K.K.Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator by releasing the balloons amidst beating of drums and merriment by visitors. The Home Secretary UT Sh. Anil Kumar, other senior officers of the Chandigarh administration graced the inaugural ceremony in the presence of MD CITCO cum Secretary Tourism Sh. D. K. Tiwari, Director Tourism Tanvi Garg and other officers of Chandigarh Administration.
The Chief Guest went round the beautifully decked up activity stalls put up by various groups and organizations. He flagged off the Carnival parade of decorated floats which saw young ethnic group of visitors from North East States mingling with other artists and children dressed in colorful costumes. The parade went around the city beautiful to spread merriment and joy amongst the citizens. The Tableaus depicting different characters of dreamland have been prepared by the students of College of Arts on the theme. With the theme Dreamland, the students have conceptulised and executed about 20 colorful attractive and dominating floats right from Dora man to sea horse, fairy, fantasy Eagle, mermaid have been created on the rickshaws by the students whole of the college faculty and staff are involved .
The day long festivities included the cultural troupe performances across various states by the NZCC, went throughout the day followed by performances by performances local artists at the mini stage. A special Souvenir Shop and pavilion of Le-Corbusier Centre, and Vintage Car exhibition in Museum & Art Gallery is also a part of the Carnival festivity. The Vintage and Classic Car Club Chandigarh has organized a Vintage & Classic Car Exhibition on all three days in the premises of Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10.
The Chandigarh Police Department has set up Children Traffic Park, Chandigarh Tourism/STEPS, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy, CEVA, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy, Le Corbusier Centre, College of Arts, Home Science College, Special Tourism Stall, College of Architecture, College of Art, Museum and Art Gallery artists corner and others have put stalls in the Chandigarh.
Today in the evening, the programmes are decked with high quotient entertainment like Sikkim white lion dance, band performance on the main stage.Popular Punjabi singer – Satinder Sarttaj will perform on Saturday – 24th November, 2012.
