Chandigarh, April 23rd: The Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival – a gift that the citizens of the City Beautiful give to themselves each year – bears a somewhat different look this time. As it revolves around a single theme – Nature/Prakriti/Qudrat. The three art akademies of Chandigarh the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi and Sahitya Akademi alongwith Department of Culture, Chandigarh Administration have come together to present this unique Chandigarh Arts & Heritage Festival. A golden thread of Art Forms binds together the four day Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival where Aditi Mangal Dass the celebrated Kathak dancer shall perform creatively with modern dance performances, Subodh Kerkar will be using strikingly innovative powers to create and installation on the theme of Nature, with exhibition of paintings of landscapes, the mother daughter duo Vasundhara and Kalapini Komkali will paint the colours of the seasons with their classical voices – RituRanga. Gopal Dass Neeraj, eminent Hindi poet will take wings and brush against Nature with this poetic competitions. Madhu Gopinath and vakkom Sajeev of Samundra Group will invoke with Yogic leaps and Bharatnatyam steps to present dance theatre performance JALAM.
Entering in its Fourth year, the Chandigarh Arts and Heritage festival, 2012 will be held from 25th to 28th April, 2012 at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18 Chandigarh. This festival is aimed at showcasing the best of performances in genres like Music, theatre, literature, by the Nationally and Internationally acclaimed artists. It is a festival committed to establishing Chandigarh as a global destination for the arts and driving cultural tourism. Being organized by the Chandigarh Administration, the four day festival will have a gamut of activities like dance theatre, Classical vocal recital, contemporary Kathak dance performances, storytelling sessions. This festival will be emphasizing on Classicism and the purpose is to promote and put forth best of classical art in front of art inclined people. The intellectual component of the Festival is that there will be a collusion of minds with lot of interactions by artists.
The festival would be spread its aura all over the city. The first performance on inaugural day i.e, 25th April at 7 pm, will be a dance theatre performance JALAM by Samudra Performing Arts of Kerela which is being directed and Choreographed by Madhu Gopinath & Vakkom Sajeev. This will blend along with a fusion of colours through art Exhibitions, painting workshops, theatre on one hand and literary & artistic events on the other, to make it truly a fragrant bouquet of Arts.
From 25th- 29th April(10 am- 5 pm), there will be Art workshop “the Exhibition of Photographs and Installation by Subodh Kerkar” with Chandigarh artists as also the Exhibition of Paintings of Landscapes in Miniature: A Quiet Passion by Bireswar Sen will be held at the Galleries of
Alliance Francaise Le Corbusier de Chandigarh.
The Chandigarh Heritage Festival will be hosting a theatre workshop by eminent theatre director Kumardas who is trained at the National School of Drama, Delhi and is also on their visiting faculty. On 26th April, the slide Lecture: Landscape as Canvas by Subodh Kerker will be held at 5 pm in Government Museum & art Gallery, sector 10 followed by RITURANG- Classical vocal recital by Vasundhara and Kalapini Komkali at 7pm at Tagore Theatre, whereas there will be an another Slide Lecture”Landscape after Battle-Nature in Transit by Johny ML ( a visiting Professor at National Institute of Design) at Government Museum & art Gallery at 5 pm on 27th April. The evening will be unveiled by “Uncharted Seas- A dance performance” by Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company on the same day at TagoreTheatre.
On the concluding day of the festival, there will be Face to Face interaction (11 am – 2 pm) with Gopal Das Neeraj, Eminent Hindi Poet/lyricist in the Conference Hall at UT Guest House. The musical evening at 7 pm will have a beautiful dramatized story telling “Dastangoi” by Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Husain will put forth Dastan-e-Taqseem-e-hind, Dastan-e-aazar jadu at Tagore Theatre.
This Annual Event of Chandigarh Administration, the Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival is being held in the month of April as it’s the season of spring, and therefore a beautiful time to celebrate the arts along with the flowering trees and gardens redolent with fragrance of flowers. The festival would be spread all over the city. The passes for The 4th Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival will be available at Tagore Theatre, Toursit Information Centre SEctor 17, CITCO Cafeteria- Sukhna Lake ( 9 am- 5 pm) .The entry will b e on first cum first serve basis.
