CHANDIGARH, OCT 20 :Chandigarh Football Academy Coaching Centre of Sector 45 defeated Sri Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26 by 2-0 in a Group B match of the Chandigarh Senior Women Football Championship for Deepak Kapania Memorial Trophy at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
The winners could have won by a handsome margin had they capitalised on the chances that came their way. CFA Coaching Centre were unlucky as Anjana Dogra’s powerful shot hit the pole and went out. CFA Coaching Centre also got a penalty but Nisha’s shot went out after hitting the upright.
The Coaching Centre scored both their goals in the first session itself. They forged ahead in the second minute. Bubbling and bustling Anjana Dogra initiated the move from the centre and gave a through forward pass to Meena who did not make any mistake. The Coaching Centre doubled the victory margin in the 19th minute as Nisha converted a measured pass from Namita from the right flank.
In a Group A match, DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 outplayed Carmel Convent of Sector 9 by 3-0. It was Nisha Pandey who contributed two goals in DAV’s facile victory. She opened the account for her team in the 20th minute and four minutes later, Neha Pandey got her second goal with a solo effort from the centre. Pooja completed the winners’ tally in the 53rd minute as DAVSSS-8 got full three points from the match.
St Stephen’s School Football Club of Sector 45 got the better of Sacred Heart of Sector 26 by 2-0. St Stephen’s FC dominated the proceedings but a goal eluded them in the first half. Sacred Heart custodian Divlina made a number of saves. On a couple of occasions, Stephen’s strikers were also wayward in their shooting or shot straight into the waiting hands of Divlina.
After a barren first half, Sacred Heart goalkeeper Divlina made an error which resulted in the first goal for Stephen’s Football Club. Divlina after collecting the ball cleared it but did not fall back. Meanwhile, Simran Sidhu volleyed from 35 yards and the ball crossed over the goalline in an empty goal in the 45th minute.
Five minutes later, Sacred Heart conceded a ‘self’ goal as Simran Sidhu’s shot went in after hitting a defender.
Earlier, Chandigarh Football Association vice-president and Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagbir Singh inaugurated the championship being conducted every year in memory of Deepak Kapania.
