1 Oct : Week long celebrations for Non Violence Week well inaugurated at G.M.S.S.S. 35-D, Chandigarh on 1st October, 2008, organized by the Pace Club of School.
District Education Officers, Mrs Khushinder Sharma was the Chief Guest. The students and staff members took a pledge to commemorate 2nd October as International Day of Non Violence and to uphold Non Violence in thoughts, deeds and words. A brief cultural programme was presented on the occasion, highly the need for having place in our everyday life to have global peace. A street play ‘Dekho – Dekho’ under the guidance of C.E.V.A. (Centre for Education and Voluntary Action) was presented by the students to have awareness about all the ills which all our society today. The Chief Guest in her speech emphasized the importance of having discipline and the growing need amongst the youngsters to control anger and keep violence under check. She also gave prizes to winners under various activities.
Mr. Parmod Sharma the Co-ordinator for the function on behalf of YUVSATTA, a Non Govt. Organization was also present on the occasion. In his address he remembered Mahatma Gandhi. The Father of the Nation for his contribution towards the course. He related interesting anecdotes from his life to acquaint the students about the great philosopher who guided India towards freedom by simply following the path of Non Violence. Principal of the school Mrs. Ravi Raj Kaur urged the students to put into practice, all that they had learnt. She asked everyone to co-operate with the Chandigarh Administration in making it a plastic free city and to completely stop the use of harmful polythene the harms to have a healthy environment.
