Chandigarh, June 7 : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today reacted strongly against the another attempt of Congress party’s scion to malign the image of Punjabis as druggists and dared Rahul Gandhi to explain the initiatives taken by Congress led UPA government during its 10 years long regime to check cross border drug trafficking.
SAD warned the Congress vice president to desist from playing politics over such sensitive issues taking a sides with controversial movie and issuing irresponsible statements would lead to further erosion of whatever little credibility he boasts of, in the public.
In a statement issued here, SAD Secretary General Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that Gandhi should adopt an open minded approach to get aware of the seriousness of this issue rather than playing politics on it. He said that it was a proven fact that Congress has no issue to hit the SAD-BJP government but it didn’t mean to stoop to such a low level as to malign the image of hardworking Punjabis besides discouraging the pioneering efforts being undertaken by brave Punjab Police officers to destroy this international drug trafficking racket.
“Your irresponsible statements have already destroyed your credibility and you should accept the fact that your party is on deathbed because irresponsible people like you are at its high command”, he added.
Advising Rahul to go through National Crime Bureau’s data, Dhindsa said that if the vice president of Congress understood politics from practical point of view then he ought to have praised the Punjab Police for its vigilance and initiatives to put a barrier on this drug flow. “We understand that Rahul cannot compliment SAD-BJP government for his political compulsions but he would have certainly had scored a good place in the heart of Punjabis if he had praised Punjab Police for its initiatives rather than defaming whole Punjabi community by issuing irresponsible statements”, said Dhindsa.
He said thatRahul Gandhi is the biggest enemy of the state and he has given proof of his being anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh through such propaganda of most malafide nature. SAD leader further said if congress scion really believes about presence of drugs in Punjab then he would do very well to conduct dope tests on youth congress leaders and if anybody among them tests positive then it will be construed as the presence of drugs in Punjab.
Divulging more, Dhindsa said that Punjab Government would conduct dope tests on all candidates during the recruitment drive for 7416 constables and he is fully confident that there would be any detections of drug consumption. Bringing facts to the knowledge of congress’ scion, SAD leader said that during the recent recruitment to Chandigarh police, no Punjabi candidate was found positive in dope tests and that should be enough to open the eyes of Rahul ‘baba’ and his coterie.
The SAD also reiterated that that the drug problem in Punjab was “the unholy progeny and legacy” of successive Congress regimes in the state and this was proved by Captain Amarinder Singh’s own admission, claims and allegations against his own party colleagues including Partap Singh Bajwa on their links with drug and terror operatives in a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi in January 2014. “So now when Captain shares the stage with Bajwa while promising to eradicate drug menacein four months, people can’t decide whether it is more pathetic or funny. After all, it was Captain who had openly accused of masterminding and promoting drug smuggling and terror-linked crimes in Punjab but your party high command conveniently chose to sit over it”, said Mr Dhindsa.
Giving a call to Punjabis to give a befitting reply to the negative agenda adopted by Congress party, Dhindsa expressed the confidence that following his past records Congress would suffer with every visit of its ‘Yuvraj’ who would go down in historical annals as the wrecker-in-chief of Congress.
