Chandigarh : Aawaaz, a city based organisation organised a candle light vigil at sector 17 plaza in solidarity with women safety against the recent incident of gang rape by four constables at a gun point of a girl who had approached the police for help in October this year in Chandigarh. The people of Chandigarh joined the initiative and gathered in a large number and protested strongly against the weak police measures and this heinous act by the protector of people. The city residents demand a stricter action against the accused to set an example for others.
Gaurav Goel, said that police should apologise and accused policeman should be punished so that no policeman again even make an attempt to commit the same crime. Police stations are supposed to be the safe grounds for the citizens and when such acts are committed by the guards of citizens, who should we approach to in case of any civil mishappenings with us. No woman feels safe in this city after this horrifying incident.
Anup Sareen said that such kind of incidents is a shame for the Chandigarh police and we strongly object it. We demand strict action against those involved in this case and this matter should not be taken lightly. We will fight till the accused are met with the same destiny.
Akhilesh said that the gang rape incident in city beautiful has brought a disrepute for the city and its law and order. This shameful and horrifying incident has invited the anger of city residents and the accused should be given a stricter punishment.
