A large number of students, teachers and other youth today gathered at the
Students’ Centre Panjab University, Chandigarh to pay tributes to Shaheed-E-
Azam Bhagat Singh on his 104th Birth anniversary falling tomorrow.
Addressing the rally Prof. M.M. Juneja, eminent scholar on Bhagat Singh,
said that even after 64 years of independence the dreams of Bhagat Singh are
yet to be realized. He sacrificed his life for the freedom of millions of poor from their poverty but still more than half the countrymen are reeling under poverty. He exhorted the youth to come forward and fulfill the dreams
of great martyr of India.Sh S.P. Singh of Democratic Forum, Panchkula spoke against the ongoing lack
of governance in India and highlighted that how the toiling masses have yet
to taste the fruits of freedom as dreamt of by Bhagat Singh.
Youth leaders Inder Singh, and Lovneet Thakur of Students Federation of
India while addressing the gathering asked the students to take oath to work
for the completion of the mission left for them by Bhagat Singh. Along with
their studies they must provide leadership to the nation, they added.
Prof. Manjit Singh, former PUTA president, said that the present form of
education is incomplete as it does not inspire our youth towards patriotism
and work for the people from the street. Students must spare time away from
the world of consumerism to realize the dreams of our great martyrs like
Bhagat Singh.
Earlier an exhibition on the great freedom fighters was displayed at the
Students’ Centre throughout the day that was visited by a large number of
students.The addresses were punctuated by the revolutionary songs sung by the students.The function ended with the candle light march from the Students Centre tothe P.U. Market.
The organizations participated in the anniversary were: Democratic Forum, Students for Society, Students Federation of India, All India Democratic Students Organisation, All India Progressive Forum,Sampooran Kranti Manch, Punjab Human Rights Organisation, and The Critique.
