Chandigarh 6
th December; The PGI Medical Technologists has strongly criticized the callous and indifferent attitude of PGI Administration in filling up the vacant posts of non-faculty staff, which has created artificial shortage, badly affecting patient care and diagnostic services.
On 25.6.2014, 75 posts of Junior Laboratory Technicians (JLT) were advertised after a highly unreasonable delay. It amounts to more than 30% of total sanctioned posts of JLT in the Institute, which are lying vacant.
The situation has further been aggravated by posting Technical Staff as LDC / Data Entry Operators and Store Keeper in various Laboratories in view of acute shortage of Lower Division Clerks (LDC). On 26.10.2013, 63 posts of LDC were advertised but the process of recruitment has not been completed even after more than 1 year and 2 months. Similarly, on 14.8.2014, 14 posts of Store Keeper and 6 posts of Receptionists were advertised.
Long queues can be seen at Registration and Fee counters and in Laboratories in Nehru Hospital, New OPD, Advanced Cardiac, Eye and Pediatric Center besides unreasonable delay in processing administrative cases of employees in various establishment sections.
In view of artificial shortage of staff the routine and emergency laboratory / x-rays / ECG investigations are getting delayed besides affecting quality of services.
Prof. Yogesh Chalwa, Director, PGI has completely lost administrative control over the PGI Administration because he is deeply involved as Teaching Staff and Physician, and the administrative officers are working according to their own whims and fancies ignoring the highly volatile and worse situation prevailing at PGI.
It will be appreciated if the higher authorities of PGI take serious note of the situation or a Public Interest Litigation is filed before the Hon’ble High Court to put the house in order
