CHANDIGARH, AUG 29 :Strong contendersr Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy of Khadoor Sahib and Malwa Khalsa School Academy of Ludhiana qualified for the final of the seventh SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior Under-14 Hockey Tournament being organised by Rock Rovers at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today. The final will be played tomorrow.
BUSH Academy completed their four-team round-robin programme with an all-win record. In their last league match, BUSH Academy routed Jarkhar Hockey Academy of Ludhiana by 3-0 for their third successive triumph. The Khadoor Sahib Academy played at their half pace as they were already assured of a final berth. After gaining a 3-0 lead in a span of five minutes, BUSH Academy took the things lightly against a dejected Jarkhar Hockey Academy.
They launched their first offensive in the 15th minute and Varun Kumar scored a field goal to put his team on the victory parth. BUSH Academy maintained pressure and four minutes later Amandeep Singh made a field goal to double the score.
Jarkhar Hockey Academy conceded the third goal in the 20th minute as Varun Kumar converted a penalty corner to complete the winners’ tally. Bush Academy earned seven penalty corners and Jarkhar got only three which they wasted.
In the second league match of the day, Malwa Khalsa School Academy of Ludhiana defeated DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 Academy by 3-0. It must go to the credit of DAV Academy that they kept Malwa Academy at bay till the 35th minute before their goal fell.
Malwa Khalsa Academy forced a penalty corner in the 35th minute and Nirmaljeet Singh converted it with ease. Fifteen minutes later, Malwa Khalsa School Academy earned another penalty corner and Navdeep Singh converted it to place his team on top. It was Parminder Singh who completed DAV Academy rout by scoring a field goal in the 52nd minute.
Malwa Khalsa Academy got 6 penalty corners in reply to two by DAV Academy.
Malwa Khalsa Academy finished the four-team league phase with two wins and one defeat and qualified for the final.
The final is expected to be a thrilling affair as Malwa Khalsa Hockey Academy would try to gain their revenge as they were beaten by BUSH Academy by 1-0 in the Round-Robin League on August 27. On the other hand, the BUSH Academy will begin with a psychological advantage.
