Chandigarh, 8th March, 2015: Prajapita Brahma Kumaris organized a public function entitled ‘Beti bachao, sashakt Banao’ to spread the message and dire need to empower women at all levelsas a part of International Women’s Day. The function was held in the presence of eminent dignitaries from across the tricity. Prominent guests who came across to mark the day included Bro. Ishwar Singh, IFS, Conservator forests, central Govt.; Sis Lily Choudhary, Joint Director, dept of social security and Women & Child Development; Bro. Harwinder Atma, Regional Head, HDFC Bank; Sis Prof. Renu Vij, Director, UIET, PU; Bro. Ajay Singhal, IPS, IG, Modernization, Haryana; Bro. Santosh kumar, Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh; Bro. Dr. Tejpal Singh chawla, State president, Punjab Chapter, Indian Medical Association; Bro C.S.Talwar, IAS, State Secretary, Red Cross Society, Punjab; Bro. Prof. Ravinder Sharma, Govt. College of Arts, Sector 10, Chandigarh.
In her message for International Women’s Day, Keynote Speaker Sister Anita, Senior Rajyoga Teacher, Brahma Kumaris & National Level Speaker said, “women mark the destiny of the nation and if we want to raise our nation high, we will have to upraise the women first. Not only does she need physical and mental empowerment, but she also needs to be spiritually empowered. She needs to be made to realize her worth and her true dignity as a being. Not only should a single day be celebrated as women’s day, but each day should be looked upon as the day to empower girls and women.”
Enlightening the audience on the plight of women, Bro. Ishwar Singh, IFS, Conservator forests, central Govt. explained that women can reach the pinnacles of success with a strong will and determined thought. He said that empowerment of women can take place only if each individual contributes towards this direction. He also expressed that an empowered society largely depends on the status of the women.
Sis Prof. Renu Vij, Director of UIET, PU laid emphasis on educating girls at every level so that they could stand for their rights independently. She claimed that until and unless women are not educated they won’t be able to fight against the evil practices of society.
While sharing his experience Bro. Prof. Ravinder Sharma, Govt. College of Arts, Sector 10, Chandigarh said that women organization like these are the need of the society through which women can realize their worth.
Apart from the talks by the dignitaries, varied cultural events marked the day. A sensitizing play showcasing the status of women and yearn for male child and gender inequality in Indian households bought forth to the audience the plight of women and girls.
