The India Post, Chandigarh, 18th January, 2009 : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dalveer Bhandari, Supreme Court of India today released a book on “Public Interest Lawyering, Legal Aid and Paralegal Services”, which is authored by Mr. Ajay Gulati (Assistant Advocate General, Govt. of Haryana) & Co-authored by Dr. Jasmeet Gulati (Lecturer in Law, University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh).
The book release was held at the Valedictory function of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2009 being organized by University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University at the Law Auditorium, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 18.1.2009 at 3:30 p.m. . The author Mr. Ajay Gulati has specialized in the area of International Economic Law in his LL.M. from University of Warwick, U.K. The book is published by the Central Law Publications, Allahabad. The foreword has been written by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajive Bhalla, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. In his foreword, Justice Rajive Bhalla has highlighted the importance of teaching the subject as paramount. He further added that Public Interest litigation and Legal aid are strategic arms of the concept of public interest lawyering and such, future lawyers must be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of these concepts.
Public Interest Lawyering, Legal Aid and Paralegal Services is a compulsory subject for five year law courses. The book covers the syllabus prescribed for the paper. Being a student edition this book will help the students to study from one source. The students of Law who are on the threshold of joining the legal profession and who will be the future scientists of law are in the greatest need of understanding the emerging dynamics of Public Interest Litigation. The importance of teaching the subject can thus hardly be overemphasized.
