S.P.Pandey ,Chandigarh, March 19, 2009 : Chandigarh state BJP president Mrs Kamala Sharma and vice president of its Women’s Cell Mrs Shashi Bala Jain (wife of Mr Satya Pal Jain, BJP candidate for Chandigarh Parliamentary constituency) along with Womens’ Cell chairperson Ms Ramneek Sharma and Party Vice president and senior Womens’ Cell leader Ms Asha Jaswal addressed a meeting of Women’s Cell activists in sectors 22 and 23 here today. Hundreds of women activists from all over Chandigarh attended the meetings.Women attending the meetings told the leaders that number of single working women and women students in the city has seen a jump in the last few years. Number of women coming home late after work is now very large. Women from other cities live her as paying guests. As the law and order in the city is in very bad shape these women live under the shadow of fear. Reports of murders, rapes and suicides are seen everyday – and women hold congress party responsible for all this. BJP Mahila Morch members also complained about inadequate hostel facilities for single women and women students.
BJP Women’s cell leaders demanded that women working in government offices should be given adequate time to attend to their kids. They also demanded provision of women instructors for their training. They wanted equal opportunities for women in promotions in all areas and full implementation of provision regarding complaints and suggestions forum.
One major issue raised women’s cell activist was about the very small number of women in Chandigarh Police because of which women in general feel unsafe. They demanded increase in the number of police women in every police station. Mahila Morch leaders promised to assure that this issue will be given high priority after BJP comes to power in the centre.
All women activists had one complaint in common – their kitchen budget has been totally disrupted. Every item of daily use has become costly. While earlier a gas cylinder was available on demand now it is difficult to get supplies and complaints of underweight cylinders are common. Unavailability of cooking gas and kerosene is a problem every women faces.
All women activists assured BJP leaders that they will do everything to ensure stunning defeat to congress party in Chandigarh during the coming elections.
Addressing the women activists Mrs Kamala Sharma and other women’s leaders assured them that on coming to power the BJP NDA government will ensure safety of all women, will control price rise and firm up the law and order machinery. Other women specific issues will also be addressed speedily.
