Chandigarh January 5, 2014 : Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Bhawan society celebrated 115th birth anniversary of great martyr Shaheed Udham singh at sector 44 with great zeal. On this occasion it was demanded unanimously that a statue of Shaheed Udham singh be placed in Parliament of India as a gesture towards the martyrdom. Financial support for the martyr’s memorials were also been sought from Central and State governments.
On this occasion chief guest was Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu – Chancellor Chandigarh University, Gharuan and former minister Punjab Shri Hans Raj Joshan presided over the function.
It is well know that Shaheed Udham singh avenged the Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar massacre by liquidating Michael O Dwayer the then Lt. Governor Punjab. O Dwyer was the person under whose order General Dyer shot dead hundreds of innocent peaceful people in Jallianwala Bagh on April 13, 1919.
Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Bhawan sociery was formed in 1977. In 2002 a plot measuring 1297 sq yards in sector 44-C Chandigarh was allotted by UT administration to built memorial in the name of martyr. The construction of Shaheed Udham Memorial Bhawan’s basement and a community hall is in its final stage. This is all being done by contribution from the members of society and donations & financial aid from General public. The estimated cost for completion of this project is about Rs. 5 crore.
On this occasion persons from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh reached to remember and pay homage to Shaheed Udham Singh.
