CHANDIGARH, JULY 7:Serving and smashing powerfully, Bhawna of Accountant General of Haryana defeated her colleague a never-say-die Saroj 21-15, 21-14 to cliam the women’s singles crown in the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD) Badminton Tournament at the Sector 42 Badminton Hall here today.
In the team championship semi-finals AG Punjab will face AG Uttar Pradesh and AG Himachal Pradesh will lock horns with Delhi Audit tomorrow.Accountant General Uttar Pradesh blanked Accountant General Haryana by 3-0 in the team championship. In the opening match Anurag Sharma of AG UP defeated Sanjay of AG Haryana 21-11, 21-10. Deepak Sharma made it 2-0 for AG UP at the clost of Raman Kumar of AG Haryana whom he defeated by 21-12, 21-11. Salil Srivastva and Sandeep Tiwari of AG UP completed AG Haryana rout as they outplayed Sanjay Dingra and Raj Kumar 21-9, 21-11.
In the men’s singles match Anurag Sharma of AG UP beat Shadab Akhtar of AG Haryana 21-9, 21-8. In the quarter-final matches Amit Sachdeva of AG Punjab beat Sandeep Prashar of AG Himachal Pradesh 21-9, 21-8 and Vijay Sharma of Delhi Audit beat Anurag Sharma of AG UP 21-13, 21-14. Rajiv of Delhi Audit prevailed over Deepak of AG UP 21-16, 14-21, 21-16 in another quarter-final fixture.
In the veterans match Sudhir Sharma of AG Punjab beat Suresh Gangta of AG HP 21-13, 21-10.
Earlier, RP Singh, Principal Accountant General (Audit), Punjab and Union Territory, Chandigarh inaugurated the tournament.
