Chandigarh : The number of cases of cervical cancer are on the rise in the country. To add to this, two-third of these cases are because of improper menstrual hygiene, the maximum burden of which is unfairly borne by the country’s poorest. Even when we climb up the stairs of becoming a developed nation, only 12% of women in our country have access to safe menstrual hygiene.
To help imporove the statistics for the better, RAC UILS in collaboration with RAC Homescience college, in second wave of it’s mission, organised their sanitary napkin distribution drive, PAD-A-GIRL 2.0 on 25th March 2021. This drive concluded in the distribution of 6200 pads to economically challenged women at various locations in tricity. Led by Rtr. Lakshay Dhalia, Guru Asra Trust and sector 79, Mohali slum area was covered. Rtr. Shourya Mehra and Rtr. Saksham Vaid guided their team for distribution in the sector 25 slum area.
The sector 38 slum area was covered by a team of rotaracters led by Rtr. Chirag Mahajan. The drive was also conducted in Panchkula, the team being led by Rtr. Aaditya and Rtr. Sidharth. Rtr. Palak and Rtr. Namita guided everyone throughout the drive. The drive did not just limit itself to distribution of pads but the team members also talked, shared information and made women aware about menstruation and menstrual hygiene. The women were happy and openly discussed their problems, thus telling the society that menstruation is no more a taboo. The team was happy with the response and were motivated to conduct many more drives in the future.
