CHANDIGARH, DEC 11 : The first meeting of organising committee of ITF Junior (Grade 3) and $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Futures Tennis Tournaments was held under the chairmanship of Pradip Mehra, Adviser to Administrator, Union Territory Chandigarh at the CLTA Tennis Stadium in Sector 10 here today.
Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association chairman and former Punjab Chief Secretary Rajan Kashyap informed the members that the ITF Junior (Grade 3) Tennis Tournament will be played from January 3 to 10, 2009. Players from 11countries are expected to take part in the tournament. Belgium, France, Japan, Netherland, Russia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Kazakhsta, Kryzistan and India have sent their entries. Zohair Raza is the sole entry from Pakistan.
As Chandgiarh provides the best infrastructure for tennis in the country and the CLTA managing the affairs with professional efficiency, the City is getting more tournaments of higher grades. From grade V, the CLTA is hosting now the grade 3 ITF Junior Tournament.
From March 14 to 21, next year, the CLTA will be hosting $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Future Touranment.
The committee also reviewed the security arrangements, accommodation and transport for the players and officials. Parkview is the official hotel.
Mr Pradip Mehra promised to extend all possible help to the CLTA for organising the international meets. Among those who attended the meeting were Finance-cum-Secretary Sports Sanjay Kumar, Chief Engineer Krishanjeet Singh, Sports Director-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner IS Sandhu, Chief Architect Sumit Kaur, Jai Singh Gill, Shivalik School Principal DS Bedi and Dr Jasjeet Singh.
