A meeting of the students with the Vice-Chancellor in which Additional Deputy Commissioners, SHO, Sector-11, Dean Student Welfare and members of the students organizations in the Campus was held on the issue to keep the campus peaceful followed by an Anti-Ragging Students meet in which also all the major students’ organizations at the campus and around 50 students participated. The meet was addressed by Professor Naval Kishore, Dean Student Welfare on 20.7.2011 at 4.00 p.m. in the Dean Student Welfare Office.
The students were apprised of the Action taken in compliance of the UGC regulation/guidelines and order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India:I. The University has displayed flexes and posters on ban of ragging and its punishments at all the places potential for ragging in the Campus and notice boards of all Departments/Hostels to make aware the students particularly the freshers about the ragging;
II. Helpline Numbers have been displayed in all the University Teaching Departments, Hostels and other vulnerable places on the Campus.
III. Forms for undertaking by the every student and their parents for not indulging in the ragging and abiding by the punishments awarded, if found guilty in ragging have been sent in the Departments/Hostels;
IV. The Chairpersons of the Teaching Departments/Wardens of the hostels are also advised to constitute the anti-ragging committees of faculty members and senior/research students at their own level.
V. An Anti-Ragging Squad to keep vigil, mobile and alert on the Campus to check any ragging and report to the Anti-Ragging Committee, etc has also be constituted.
VI. frequent rounds of PCR vehicles (clockwise & anti-clockwise) have been arranged on the Campus upto 31st of August to instill the confidence and dispelling the fear from the minds of freshers;
VII. security in the Teaching Departments as well as in the Hostels have been beefed up by providing additional security personnel.
VIII. FIR in case of ragging, as per the UGC guidelines, will be lodged with the Police by the Head of the Department/Warden where the incident takes place;
IX. Suggestion by Ms. Simranjeet Kaur, a student of law Department was agreed to organize a candle march and a play against ragging at the Campus.
X. Any false allegation of ragging will lead legal action against the culprits.
