8 July : The Annual Jamun Day was celebrated at the Nature Discovery, Commonwealth Youth Programme, Asia Centre, Sector 12, Chandigarh with great religious fervor. This day is being celebrated for the last 10 years with the aim to promote the plantation of Jamun Trees and consumption of by the people. Students of schools with placards in their hands raised slogans “Jamun Lagao – Jamun Khao”The special guests at this function were the young students and their parents from Iran. Dr. Abbas Abbasi a research scholar said that Jamun is called Jambo in Persian. He said that they and their families have relished Jamun. They are grateful to the organizers for inviting us. This will also promote cooperation and brotherhood among the two countries. Students of Indo Global Engineering College led by Prof. D R kapoor and students from various schools participated in the function. Dr. Madan Gulati, Ex Deputy Director Ayurveda, Chandigarh Administration said that the Jamun provides strength to stomach and liver. It helps to check diarrhea. Seeds are an effective for diabetes. Powder of its leaves strengthens the teeth Environment Society of India president S K Sharma said that the prices of jamun is now Rs.100/ per kg. The people are becoming diabetic. This calls for the need to plant more and more trees.

you should promote this fruit as this is indigenous,have lot of medicinal properties and more over no chemical is used for ripenning.
