CHANDIGARH: April 25- The adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, Mr. K. K. Sharma, inaugurated the newly renovated Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Information Technology/B.P.O. Sector, at the Govt. Industrial Training Institute for Women, here today. On the occasion, Mr. Sharma said, “Such endeavours are an achievement in itself. We must now aim at the diversification, re-orientation and integration of the vocational training courses. This will go a long way in making education practical so that once a student passes the Senior Secondary Education, it is not a mere qualification rather an achievement that can fetch our children jobs.”
The New Centre of Excellence costing about rupees One crore, has five computer labs., three Lecture Rooms, one Seminar-cum-Conference Room, one Placement & Career Unit and one Canteen especially to run the local IT Industry need-based and latest technology driven computer courses, with active participation of Industry, under the Govt. of India Scheme. An interest free loan of Rs.2.5 Crores to this Institute has been sanctioned under Govt. of India Scheme for purchasing latest computer hardware and software, modern furniture, learning resources and material under Information Technology/BPO Sector. Thereafter, Shri K. K. Sharma while addressing the students of the Institute, advised them to take full benefit of the new training facilities made available to them. Later on, he inaugurated a fascinating and much awaited Annual Crafts Exhibition-cum-Sale-2012 showcasing stitched and embroidered garments prepared by the students during their training period.
The Secretary Education, UT, Chandigarh – Shri V. K. Singh, who was the Guest of Honour, said that the upgraded infrastructure is likely to usher in an era of not only making the Institute technology savvy but will also encourage tie up with related industries, institutions of higher learning at the national and international levels in various manifestations.
Mr. Partap K. Aggarwal, Chairman, IMC declared that new Admission in CoE courses would have special fee concession for those, opting at first instance two Interlinked CoE Courses in a single stream. ” The upgraded infrastructure would be put to different modern technical use, innovative approach in computer labs, face-to-face-interaction and placement services,” said Institute Principal, Mr. Rajan Dogra.
The Annual Crafts Exhibition-cum-Sale-2012 after being inaugurated by the worthy Adviser to the Administrator witnessed great rush at Sales Counters as people liked the creative stitching and embroidered work very much. The entire sale proceeds will go to State Exchequer. The students of various trades like Hair & Skin Care, Stenography, COPA and CoE courses also displayed their activities through models, charts, etc. at their respective Stalls in the Exhibition.
