16 Sep :PRAKRITI- The Environment Society of Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated International Ozone Day today. The Day is celebrated every year on 16th of September to commemorate the signing of MONTREAL PROTOCOL which was an agreement adopted in 1987 to cut down the emission of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).
The society organized a Paper Reading Contest on the Topic OZONE DEPLETION-A Global Environmental Issue. Mrs. Promila Kaushal, Principal of the college was the Chief Guest on the occasion. About 20 students participated in the Paper Reading Contest. A lecture on OZONE DEPLETION was delivered by Ms. Samriddhi Chauhan, a faculty member of the college. Principal Mrs. Promila Kaushal, in her address to the students emphasized the need to protect the Ozone layer by changing our lifestyles and adopt a simple way of living by helping in the reduction of the CFCs which are the major contributors of Ozone Depletion. A movie, “AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH” was also shown to the students. The movie has won an Oscar Award for the Best Documentary and is based on Global Warming.
