Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh , May 27 : A new exercise technique is being introduced in the Tricity. ‘Pilates’, which is a form of American Exercise, also popularly called, ‘Yoga of the West’, will be brought to the tricity by a foreigner, who is an expert in the art. The credit for this goes to Forty-two-year old Katja Wollenweber, who originally is from Germany and has been to various countries and The British School, Chandigarh, which has roped in Katja to offer training in Chandigarh. This exercise form originated from USA, where a person who was troubled by various health problems, created the exercise to strengthen the core deep muscles. Pilates focuses on the abdomen and the back, thereby developing longer muscles, which keeps one younger for longer.Katja is not just an expert in this Western exercise form, but has also mastered the Indian exercise form of Yoga. She has been trained in YOGA at Shivananda Yoga Centre located in Germany’s BAD HEWBERG. She did a lot of research on Yoga and finally she has become an International expert in it. The focus of this expert is better health through exercise forms and she has also introduced ballet in her repertoire. Katja has been an avid ballet dancer since she was just 16 years old.
So for the first time in Chandigarh, a foreign expert will be doling out lessons in three important exercise forms—Yoga, Pilates and Ballet. The media were also given a live demonstration of Yoga and Pilates by Katja.
Katja has been to Chandigarh earlier also. She found that the city was beautiful and residents quite educated and responsive to new ideas and techniques. Katja will be conducting the classes at The British School, Chandigarh as the school has always been at the forefront in introducing new initiatives in the region and found the school’s administration quite sensitive to the idea. The classes will start from June 1 and go on till June 30, 2011 at The British School, Sec 44, Chandigarh. Katja told the media that there will be three segments of workshops for different age groups. She will hold Yoga and Pilates for Adults(15+ yrs) from 7.30 AM, Yoga and Pilates for Kids at 8.30 AM(7-15 yrs), Ballet 9.30 AM(8 + yrs). Price ranging from INR 500 to INR 7500.
