CHANDIGARH- December 22, 2008: The Panjab University Pharmaceutical Society of UIPS organized a class reunion meet of Golden and Silver Jubilee B. Pharmacy batches of 1958 and 1983 on Saturday, 20 Dec. 2008. Nearly all the alumni who travelled from far off places like USA, Australia, Phillipine or Canada to CHD despite the cold winter participated in the event. In addition all the local alumni of UIPS were also present. It was a walk down the memory lane for all those who were present.
The well attended event helped the faculty, researchers and students to peep into the glorious past of the institute. Prof.. R. C. Sobti presided over the function and appealed/ invited all the alumni to serve their alma-mater either professionally or financially. Prof. Karan Vasisht, Chairman of the department in his welcome address emphasized the need to continue this event, which was held for the first time. He stressed to generate a corpus for which he made a personal donation of Rs one lac as seed money. The chairman made an earnest appeal to all the alumni to get in touch with the department and give their valuable suggestions to continue this movement. A special supplement issue of ‘The Pharmacos’, comprising profiles of these pass out UIPIANS was also released by VC during this conclave.
An alumni introduction in which each one of them presented a glimpse of their journey during 25 years left everyone enthralled. All the participants opined that alumni could play an active role in the growth and development of UIPS, and also pledged their active support for the same. All of them also became the life members of the PU alumni cell The well placed alumni are holding top level veritable positions within India and abroad in the corporate pharmaceutical world; Hindustan Lever, Aventis, Procter and Gamble, GSK to name a few. Some of them have ventured into independent consultancy services, clinical research organizations, chain of pharmacies after attaining professional proficiencies in their respective fields.
A colorful cultural evening was also organized by the students of UIPS, which left the pass outs spellbound. It was followed by dinner according to Dr. Ranju Bansal, Reader, Pharm.Chem, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University.
