Chandigarh,14 May:While celebrating 27th year of academic excellence the Government Government for Girls,Sec-42, Chandigarh has come out with publication of college magazine ‘Shikhar’. College is known for embracing value and approaches that have shaped the creative urge of the student community. Mr. A.J Philips, Senior Associate Editor, The Tribune released the 2008 issue of the Magazine. While speaking on the occasion Mr. Philips appreciated the efforts of the editorial team .He further elaborated the need to encourage the students to participate in more creative writings activities and be fully prepared with the new skills in the competitive environment. While highlighting the achievements of the college, Principal Mrs. Shashi Malik informed that students are exposed to the nuances of the socio- economic, political and international issues. The contents lay great emphasis on enhancing the power of comprehension and developing the new skills of students so as to foster the importance of all round personality development. Constant attempts have been made to upgrade, innovate and evolve new methods, so that GCG-42 can be benchmarked with the best colleges of the country. The inquisitiveness about the new ideas among girls can very well be seen in their writings. The inexorable demands of our girls compelled us to make a few changes in the magazine. One cannot but admire ingenious display of talent by our students. One year of hard work of our editorial team has gone into making this possible .The members of editorial board tried their level best to gather all possible information and motivate students to churn out ideas. Well, all these efforts have not been futile, and the issue of 2008 is here to transport you all to a world of knowledge full of creative ideas and new vision. The issues such as global, local, civil society, organizations, problems of governance, alternative economic and political systems have been the essential topics of discussion among our students. The ideas in ‘Shikhar’ are not generated in a vacuum but reflect a variety of pluralist factors. Certain writings of students provide insights on important issues. The insights about the way in which the ideas and emotions of pupils get translated into effective writings and finally shape new decision making process are undoubtedly path-breaking. In the process of finalising the draft , much time has been devoted in brain storming sessions with the members of editorial board .Sometimes, conceptual and scholastic argumentations and discussions result in the creation of exquisite writings. Attention is paid to judge the empirical and normative understandings of many variations that were found in constellations of write ups. These constellations to a great extent reflect the real concern of students. It goes without saying that the new inspiring vision of the future portrayed by the magazine would enthrall our girl students who are shortly going to step out into the world of competition much beyond college life.
