11 Aug : The Department of Human Development & Family Relations, Government Home Science College, Chandigarh runs Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Child Guidance and Family Counselling to deal with the demand for trained counselors. The course equips the trainees to deal with the developmental aspect of human beings over the life span. While the need to adjust persists at all ages because of ever increasing pressures of inter- and intra-relations between the family members, peers, co-workers, and all the significant people around; the life-style is undergoing a swing change too. The Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Child Guidance and Family Counselling run by the department has a curriculum designed in a way to give a theoretical background of all aspects of development that make up personality of any individual, the ways human beings respond to the different situations, the individual differences, the deviances, and how to deal with these. The course also orients the students to the existing agencies in and around the city, at state, national and international levels. The content includes policies, rights, laws, and related rehabilitation services as well. Hands on work experience includes visits to the welfare agencies, schools and colleges in the city. A three month internship with agencies related to guidance, counselling intervention at the concluding part of the one year course provides scope for practical learning and job placement. The trainee counsellors are thus given a knowledge base as well orientation to the related skills respecting the family setting as an important factor. The practicum includes the skill for documenting cases, networking, and sharing research work in a scientific format.
