The India Post, Chandigarh, 29th January 2009 :As part of the initiative of the Chandigarh Administration’s action plan for gender sensitization and removing girl child discrimination, Govt. Home Science College organized activities related to girl child protection and survival.
Mrs. Madhu P. Singh, advocate, delivered a talk on "Awareness of rights as individuals to counter victimization within and outside family". The talk focused on the role of women in protecting their own rights. Using case exemplars, she also spoke at length on domestic violence, awareness and punishments associated with it. Her very informative talk was followed by an interactive session with the students.
The Chief Guest, Director Higher Education, Mrs. Raji P. Srivastava was welcomed by the Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Rita G. Singh. Mrs. Raji P. Srivastava in her address to the students outlined the initiatives undertaken by the Chandigarh Administration for "Value the girl child’ project. She stressed on the need to involve the youth in mobilizing awareness on the rights of the girl child.
The students of the college choreographed and staged a dance drama, "Betiyan Anmol", celebrating the girl child which focused on elimination of discrimination of the girl child. Similar sentiments were woven together in the form of a geet sung by the students.
