CHANDIGARH- SEPTEMBER 13, 2008: Hony. Brig. Dr. Anil Kohli, President, Dental Council of India inaugurated the Academic Session-2008 of Dr. H.S. Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital at P.U. Campus here today. A formal induction ceremony was also conducted for the new batch of 100 students.Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anil Kohli exhorted the students to work hard and make use of quality education being provided by a model institute, to ensure that they lived up to the expectations of their parents and society at large. He said it was his dream that every student of this institute attains what he has. “Dentistry is a noble profession and you should work with dedication for the betterment of the rural and needy persons. You should provide them better treatment at affordable prices”. He shared his inspiration that he drew from the ray of hope from the eyes of the students. Indian dentists excel everywhere abroad by virtue of their training, dedication, intelligence and sense of sincerity. The opportunities despite the facilities which are available abroad equip the students to emerge as the best anywhere. We should be proud of our country where we learn much more than others.
Dr. Kohli expressed his happiness that the Institute of Dental Sciences had the makings of a great institute and assured of his support. Quality education should not be compromised at any cost.
Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, P.U. shared his dream of making the Dental Institute a Centre of Excellence and profusely thanked Dr. Anil Kohli for his consistent support.
Dr. Kohli is a visionary President and under whose guidance dental education has improved tremendously in our country. He promised to provide all facilities which are needed for research, medical treatment and service to society particularly to the rural people.
Sharing his happiness at the achievements made during a short span of a little more than two years, Dr. Sobti complimented Dr. Gauba and his team for having contributed more than forty research papers in journals of national and international repute. Such commitment and hard work ensures that the Dental Institute is an institute with a difference and has bright future.
Prof. Sobti shared that he was making efforts to set up a Medical College as the University could provide most-conducive environment for medical education and research as it had internationally renowned faculty in Bio-Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Sciences. The collective wisdom can do wonders for the medical education.
Dr. K. Gauba, Director-Principal in his welcome address informed that the State of the Art Institute was set up in the year 2006 to fulfill the long cherished demand of the region and was formally dedicated to the nation by the then Vice-President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
At present the Institute is imparting training to 300 BDS students by dedicated faculty of 90 and the institute has 18 departments (nine in the Dental specialities and nine in medical specialities). The institute attends to over 200 patients every day at various specialty clinics which include rehabilitation of edentulous cases with complete and partial dentures, crown and bridge work as well as placement of Implants, which is the most modern technique of rehabilitation, Orthodontic Treatment, Restorations, Root Canal Treatment, Periodontal Therapy, Minor Surgical procedures, to name some of the many facilities by using the most modern and state of art facilities. The institute is also rendering preventive oral health services to the adults and children of the downtrodden areas of labour colonies of Chandigarh and adjoining rural areas. It also runs oral health education programmes for the benefit of school children in the city and adjoining rural areas, Dr. Gauba added.
Dr. Gauba expressed his gratitude to Dr. Anil Kohli for having agreed to inaugurate the session. The blessings from a custodian of Dental Education provides added impetus to everyone. Dr. Kohli has been an institution in himself and has been conferred Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan for his exceptional and distinguished services. His help, unparalleled guidance and generous support will always be remembered..
