Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh, 31st Aug. : Carmel Convent School, sector 9B, Chandigarh, organized a weeklong program of Mother Teresa’s centenary celebration from August 26, 2010 to August 31, 2010.
The school collected voluntary contribution from the students towards the noble cause that Mother Teresa lived for.
The celebration comprised a myriad of events like exhibition, visits to Mother Teresa Convent, essay writing, quiz, declamation, recitation etc. On the final day, August 31, 2010, the school show cased with deep gratitude to Mother Teresa, an illuminating performance of a play which brought to light the step by step heart-rending journey of Mother Teresa’s life, and reflected on her arduous struggle to serve the poor, the destitute, the dying and the marginalized. Another highlight of the program was a soul stirring dance which gave much joy and enjoyment to the inmates of Mother Teresa’s Convent who were the special guests. Besides there were also melodious songs and speeches on the glorious saga of spiritual service exemplified in every gesture of Mother Teresa’s life. The function was presided over by honorable Brother Stev from St John’s. Among the special invitees were Sisters from Mother Teresa’s Convent, social activist Mrs. Vineeta Sahni, Mrs. Kavita Das, principal St. Johns’ and the inmates of Mother Teresa’s Convent. Brother Stev applauded the efforts of the students and urged them to draw inspiration from the virtuous and prayerful life of Mother Teresa and uphold her spirit of service in doing small things with great love. He also emphasized on the tremendous power of prayer in our lives and stressed on setting aside some time every day for God’s love to flow into our lives and be the power house of all that He wants us to do. The principal of the school Sr. Maria Swati, along with the staff and the students put in her whole hearted efforts in making the program a spiritually enlightening and a memorable one. She concluded with Mother Teresa’s statement –“Every person is Jesus in disguise” – as the guiding light of the Ambassador of Peace – Holy Mother Teresa.
