Chandigarh, April 30, 2010; Today, at a function organized by Yuvsatta and Sohanjana Eco-Club of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 46 D, Chandigarh, Santosh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests & Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration inaugurated a campaign for ‘Water Audit’ by young students of the School.
Giving information about the initiative Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta said that in view of the growing fresh water crisis, their NGO is approaching Schools of the city to motivate their students for ‘Water Audit’ in their respective household, through which children will be sensitized to note down total consumption of water during cooking, gardening, leaking taps, while bathing, brushing teeth’s, shaving, in toilets or washing open spaces & vehicles. Than they can be easily motivated to come with ideas to reduce this consumption by at least 20%-25%.
Inaugurating the campaign Santosh Kumar, IFS said that Water is precious and beyond purchase & a casual approach will certainly bring the dooms day much closer. He further said that with little guidance by their teachers young children can easily becomes ‘Agents of Change’ to restrict use of fresh water to the bare minimum, they can motivate their family members to save water by various ways like use of mugs for toilet flushing, strictly ensuring that there is NO leakage, seepage and wastage of even a single drop of water (even a drop-leaking tap adds up to 10,000 liters of water a year and to rouse public awareness against wastage of water.
In the end, Principal Sudesh Raghav presented a vote of thanks and Om Prakash, the eco-club incharge showed Santosh Kumar numerous varieties of herbal plants & trees on the School campus and also apprised him about various green initiatives of their Sohanjana Eco-club.
