Chandigarh : Under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Mr.Justice A.K.Sikri, Chief Justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh and under the esteem guidance of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hemant Gupta, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh and the Hon’ble Mr. Justice TPS Mann, Administrative Judge of this Sessions Division, quarterly Lok Adalat was held on 22nd December,2012.
In this Lok Adalat, 21 benches were constituted, in which cases of different categories like Motor Accident Claim Cases, Hindu Marriage Act Cases, Civil Cases, civil Appeals, Compoundable Criminal Cases, Cases U/S 125 Cr.P.C., Rent Cases, Executions, Cases U/S 138 N.I. Act, Complaints, Bank cases, Telephone Company cases, Revenue cases, Labour & Consumer Cases, Traffic Challans and cases pertaining to prelitigative stage etc., were taken up for settlement.
The Hon’ble Mr. Justice TPS Mann and S.K.Aggarwal, District & Sessions Judge visited the benches and took keen interest in getting decided various matters amicably. Many family disputes were amicably settled with the direct supervision and intervention of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice TPS Mann.
In all 9400 cases of different categories have been disposed of.
291 cases were settled Under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act;
Compensation of Rs.25,77,280/- was awarded in the MACT cases.
In execution petitions an amount of Rs.86,00,000/- has been disbursed to the petitioners/claimants.
In traffic challans Rs.17,83,115/- were imposed and realised as fine.
Besides this, civil cases, rent cases, cases pertaining to pre-litigative stage of Bank/Financial Institutions and other categories were also disposed of.
Shri S.K.Aggarwal, District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh and Sh.Rajnish K.Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, appealed to the public to resolve their disputes through the Lok Adalats as it provides quick and economical justice. It also saves the valuable time, money and energy of the litigants. Every award of the Lok Adalat is final and no appeal shall lie to any court against the award of the Lok Adalat.
