CHANDIGARH, JAN 7 :More than 750 students from 55 different schools have sent their entries for the State Level Sports Meet being organised by Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering and Technology at Khel Gaon SVIET, from January 9 to 12.
Addressing a press conference here today, SVGOI Chief Executive Officer Manmohan Garg said that students from 9th to 12th standard were eligible to take part in the four-day sport meet. Competitions will be held in athletics, basketball, volleyball and tennis.
He said "SVIET has declared the year 2009 as Sports Year. It will pave the way for students to take up sports for their overall development. SVIET is looking further to organise sports events to encourage rural area students."
SVGOI chairman Ashwani Garg said "sports is something that removes barriers and difference among nations and brings everyone on a common platform."
The winning teams will get a cash prize of Rs 5000 each and runners-up Rs 3000 each. The best athlete will be presented a cash incentive of Rs 3000 along with medals and trophies.
