Dr.Avnish Jolly ,26 Mar :The 52nd Annual Convocation of Government College for Girls, Sec-11, Chandigarh was held today. Padma Bhushan Dr. B.N.Goswamy was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Convocation was inaugurated by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and the Principal. The students enchanted Vedic Mantras and presented Guru Vandana to invoke blessings of the divine.
Chief Guest Dr. Goswamy also released the college magazine ‘ABHA’. The magazine showcases a collection of the literary and creative potential of the students in different streams and the achievements of the college.
Congratulating the Graduates and Post-Graduates in his Convocation Address, Chief-Guest Dr. Goswamy motivated them to be the agents of change and take charge of the future. Recalling his school days and quoting Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sadi and Socrates he emphasized that today’s world is full of opportunities, so they should clean up the dust from the mirrors, make up their mind and put their energy to constructive use.
As many as 750 students were awarded Graduate and Post-Graduate degrees. 58 Post-Graduate degrees were awarded in Public Administration, Economics, Dance, Music Vocal and Music Instrumental. In the Graduate category, 43 degrees for Commerce Honours, 83 for Commerce, 38 for BCA, 177 for Honours in Arts, 190 for Arts and 157 Science graduates were awarded degrees in Medical, Non-Medical and Computer Science.
Students who had excelled in academics by their outstanding performance in the Panjab University examinations were honoured by the Chief Guest. Ms. Jyoti was awarded the Roll of Honour for standing first in M.A Dance, Ms. Sushmeet Kailey was awarded Roll of Honour for standing third in M.A Public Administration, Ms. Preeti Jain was given Roll of Honour for securing first position in B.A Honours in Public Administration, Ms. Simran kaur was awarded Roll of Honour for securing first position in French Honours, Ms. Pallavi Gupta was awarded Roll of Honour for securing first position in Psychology Honours, Ms. Monika was given Roll of Honour for securing first position in Geography Honours, Ms. Mandeep Kaur was awarded Roll of Honour for securing first position in Hindi Honours, Ms. Niti Pandeya was awarded Roll of Honour for standing first in Economics Honours.
Ms. Samvadini was awarded Roll of Honour, B.P.Bagchi Medal and Panna Lal Madan Medal for securing first position in M.A. Music Instrumental, Ms. Poonam Rajput was awarded Panna Lal Medal for standing first in College in M.A Music Vocal. 25 graduates and post-graduates were also given prizes for securing positions in college in the PU Annual Examination.
Earlier presenting the College Annual Report, Mrs. Promila Kaushal, Principal of the College highlighted the illustrious achievements of the students in the field of academics. She also enlisted the glorious progress made by the college during the last year in various fields.
