25 Feb : The 43rd Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution function was held at Government Home Science College today. The college shared a proud moment with having Honorable Justice Sabina as the Chief Guest who is also the alumnus from the college.
The Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Rita G. Singh presented the Annual Report of the college for the session 2010-11 highlighting the achievements of the students and the staff, and the new courses and developments in the college during the session.
On the occasion, 118 degrees were awarded, of which 70 degrees were awarded to the Graduates (B. Sc. Home Science) and 10 Postgraduate degrees to the M.Sc. Home Science. 13 students from Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Family Counselling were conferred upon with Diploma. 19 Post graduate Diplomas in Nutrition and Dietetics and 6 Post graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing were also awarded.
150 academic and co-curricular prizes were awarded to meritorious students.
University position holders for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the session 2009- 10 were awarded prizes. These were:

6. Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing: Daljit Kaur
7. B.Sc. Home Science: Garima Saxena

In her inspiring address Justice Sabina persuaded the students to melt in pursuit of knowledge quoting Persian poet Saadi. In her speech she emphasized knowledge to be as important as ethics. She closed her address by reciting the lines by the famous poet Iqbal, “Meri tareeq ameeri nahi faqeeri hai, khudi na bech, gareebi me reh kar naam paida kar.”
