Chandigarh 10 April, Rajan Shukla, B.A-1st year : The relay hunger strike started by The Tribune Employees Union entered its 3rd day today. The four members of the union, namely Mr. Balwinder Jammu, Mr. Lalit Goel, Mr. Gopal Chand and Mr. Raju will remain on hunger strike for 24 hours from Sunday.
Earlier, the President of the union Mr. Balbir Singh Jandu, Vice-presidents Mr. Karamvir and Mr. Ashok Sharma and executive members, Mr. Balwinder Sipray and Mr. Omvir Singh were on 48-hours hunger strike. Meanwhile, the health condition of Mr. Omvir singh, deteriorated after 36 hours of fasting, but he was reluctant to get any medical aid. On strong persuasion of police officials and union leaders, he was shifted to Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.
Earlier, today Mr. Ashok Sharma was also hospitalized due to uneasiness.It is pertinent to mention here that the union has demanded an independent probe in to corrupt practices in The Tribune, action against head administration Mr. MPS Kahlon for misbehavior with woman journalists and revoking suspension union leaders, executive members and active members of the union.
The management of The Tribune has adopted an adamant and insensitive attitude towards the demands of the union. Due to the indifferent attitude of the management, there is strong resentment among the employees and if any untoward incident happens, the whole responsibility will lie with the Tribune management.
