CHANDIGARH, OCT 24 :The Pakistan Punjab Golf Association is fielding a 38-member contingent, including 12 officials and 14 ladies, in the third edition of the Indo-Pak Inter-Punjab Golf Tournament for the Punj-Aab Cup to be played at the 18-hole Chandigarh Golf Course here from October 28 to 30.
Addressing a press conference here today, Punjab Golf Association president SK Sharma, IPS said that competitions would be organised in three categories — Up to 40 years, 40 to 50 years and above 50 years. Four team members will form a part of each category.
Sharma informed that the format would give a good exposure to all age groups. The team which secures maximum number of points will emerge the winners. Pakistan Punjab Golf Association will defend their title. PGA (Pakistan) president Maj Gen (Retd) Zafar Abbas and general secretary Lt Col (Retd) Zulfiqar Rana would be part of the Pakistan delegation. The PGA president said that the dates of the Pun-Aab Cup was decided keeping in mind the Diwali festival so that the visitors could also enjoy the festival and private dinner at Vaseela Resorts on October 28.
PGA general secretary Col Harinder Singh Baidwan said that the practice round would be held on October 27 and the tournament would be played on Ryder Cup format.
Four-time All India Police Games individual champioin SK Sharma said that Harjinder Singh Kang had been appointed captain of the Punjab team while Jesse Grewal would be the coach.
Teams: Pakistan Punjab: Up to 40 years: Danyal Jehangir, Aadil Jehangir, Muhammad Safdar Khan, Abdul Zahoor. 40 to 50 years: Sardar Murad Khan, Saleem Raza, Kamran Ashraf, Mohsin Anwar. Above 50 years: Muhammad Shafique Bhatti, Zahid Ahmed, Muhammad Alam Sethi, Muhammad Jameel Khalid.
India Punjab: Up to 40 years: Harjinder Singh Kang (captain), Aman Huron, Angad Cheema, Raghav Bhandari. 40 to 50 years: Suman Puri, Sandeep Sandhu, JS Bakshi, Rupinder Singh Sandhu. Above 50 years: Ishwar Pratap Singh Mann, Brig GJ Singh, Col Iqal Singh, Col AD Singh.
Meanwhile, the PGA is also organising one-day Col B S Kahlon Memorial Golf Championship to be played by delegates and lady golfers at the Panchkula Golf Club on October 27. Haryana Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala will distribute the prizes at 2.30 p.m.
