Chandigarh,19 Apr:Students and 30 Scouts of Govt. Model. Sr. Sec. School, sector -22-A, Chandigarh took part in a one day workshop on the theme "Environment" to mark the WORLD EARTH DAY, at their school campus. During the workshop, students discussed various issues through which our environment is polluted, like Usage of Polythene, Various ways of pollution and use of pesticides etc.Discussing in the workshop students came up with the issues which they think more serious like the Wastage of water, usage of polythene and Decreasing number of trees etc ,Acting as the facilitator, Mr. Gaurav Gaur, helped them in making their presentations and students shared their thoughts in written and by drawing pictures. Then he shared some shocking facts about Enviornment especially Water.He told that India has 4% of World’s water and it’s estimated that if the same pace of water consumption will continue then by 2020, India will become a Water-stressed Nation.According to 2001 census data only 68.2% households have access to safe drinking water.
He also told the students about the various ways to save water like keep your taps off while brushing your teeth and avoid the washing of cars etc. We may gift a tree on our friend’s Birthday. About polythene, as we know that it don’t decompose and hence it is a serious area of concern for all of us and sometime some stray animals eat it and they are dying.
Mr. Sunil Kumar, Principal, said that, it is the right time to join our hands to save our Mother Earth. We should switch on enviornment friendly steps like the using a bicycle because it will keep us fit and also reduces the pollution level. We should use to natural manures and we should avoid the use of polythene bags.
He also said that in the coming times more and more such programmes will be organised to mobilise and motivate the student community.
