Chandigarh, March 11: The Chandigarh Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements for traffic regulations along the Janmarg and Uttar Marg – the race tracks for successful management of the Chandigarh Marathon .The Chandigarh police informs the public not to use the Janmarg from the light points near the UT secretariat Sector 9 to the main Secretariat chowk. Thereafter upto Raj Bhawan chowk through Sukhna lake on Uttar Marg from 5.30 am to 11 am on 13th March.Marathon expo has started at Cricket Stadium Sector 16 from today onwards and for registration of participants for Marathon runs shall continue upto 7 pm on 12th March(Saturday).At the Marathon Expo runners will get information on different aspects of running and staying injury free and will get bibs, T-Shirts for registered participants in 2nd Chandigarh Marathon runs.
2nd Chandigarh Marathon to be organised by Chandigarh Administration is scheduled to be held on March 13th (Sunday) from Rock Garden from 5.30 am onwards. The Marathon runs shall be for the spirit of Chandigarh. It will be a great occasion for participants from all across the country to run along with International athletes in the most picturesque area of Chandigarh encompassing the beautiful Janmarg and Uttar Marg linking with the Lake promenade up to the Regulator End and back to Rock Garden in loops for a Full Marathon (42.197 kms and Half Marathon (21.095 Kms), Dream Run (5 Kms) from Rock Garden to Chandigarh Golf Course and Back.
According to Home Secretary, Ram Niwas, “Chandigarh Administration has invited its own renowned golfer Jeev Milkha Singh to flag off the Half Marathon run whereas Ace international boxer Vijender Singh will flag off the Elite Full Marathon amidst National and International Athletes. Besides this, the brightest star – the only Olympian shooter of India Abhinav Bindra would flag off the Dream run of 5 Km. Other Celebrities from Bollywood and Sports fraternity are expected to participate in the Marathon runs/races. “
