By Ramesh K Dhiman ,CHANDIGARH – Chandigarh, the city of hop and happening, also known as the City of Gardens worldwide, organized the 29th annual Chrysanthemum Show at the sector 33 terraced gardens here on Friday.
The UT Adviser, Mr Vijay Kumar Dev, inaugurated the colourful event, organized under the aegis of Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh. He patted the municipality staff and lauded their role for organizing such a wonderful show, which was a big draw on the inaugural day. “It is one of the shows I have witnessed in a long time”, he said.
Gardeners and allied staff of the corporation had gone the extra mile to make this annual feature a memorable one, unlike the previous years. They had created winsome replicas of certain avian, bovine and other wild neighbors, including cow, camel, peacock, giraffe, et al, using flowers. As many as 832 entries were received and registered this year, out of which 257 were put on public display.
Dev, after taking Mayor snappy round of the impressive show, along with Poonam Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor Gurbax Rawat and Municipal Commissioner B Purushartha, among others, laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Pillar in the Garden.
The Adviser, flanked by his wife, Sonya Dev, also cut the birthday cake to celebrate his birthday, which coincided with the inaugural ceremony of the event. A colourful brochure dedicated to the show was also released on the occasion.
An impressive cultural programme was also presented by the students of Gurukul Global School, Panchkula, on the inaugural day.
