Chandigarh, September 12 : All India Mother-in-Law Protection Forum (AIMPF) held its first interactive weekly session/meeting for the mother in laws at the Leisure Valley, here this evening. As many as 225 people including 100 aggrieved families attended the meet. The affected mother in laws were guided and were made aware of their legal rights and social justice.
The affected mother in laws from all over Punjab, Haryana and Himachal including Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ambala, Sirsa, Shimla and Parwanoo attended the first meeting of the AIMPF.
In most of the cases, the mothers in laws were been harassed and thrashed by their daughter in laws. “They are old people almost at the end of their lives but this has not deterred their daughters-in-law from torturing and harassing them. Most of them are dependent on their sons which is a bone of contention. While the son wants his parents to stay with him in old age, his wife wants them out which causes conflict,” said Manjit Puri, In charge of the Chandigarh Chapter.
“Looking at the response, we have added the helpline numbers wherein the mother in laws can call and seek guidance. The MIL can call 24/7 at 9569563161, 9872417373, 9888009199”, said Manjit Puri.
“I was shocked to see mother in laws crying for help. They are not only threatened but are also thrashed by their daughter in laws and her family members. The situation is becoming pathetic day and day and if the government continues being just a mute spectator, days are not far, when marriage in India will end”, added Manjit Puri.
The forum has received more than 250 calls not only from India but also from abroad including Canada and Australia ever since the forum was launched.
