Chandigarh: Sanjay Pahwa: Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes, established in the pious memory of veteran patriot and freedom fighter, S. Lal Singh, today observed his 21st death anniversary. In his loving memory a “Shardhanjli Samaroh” was organised. It was attended by Dr. Zora Singh, Chairman, Ms. Tejinder Kaur, Vice-chairperson, Prof. Shalini Gupta, Director General of DBGOI, social workers, principals, staff and students of the Institutions.
Born and bought up in a middle class family, S. Lal Singh started taking part in the freedom struggle right from his youth, caring little for the comforts of home and hearth. After some time he came in contact with Netaji Subhash Chander Bose and became one of his close associates. After India got freedom, he had an urge to do something for the uplift of the poor and the down-trodden. His illustrious son, Dr. Zora Singh, himself a philanthrophist, social worker and educationist has cherished his memory and paid him the richest tribute by establishing such a large group of educational institutions and spreading the light of education in the country. Dr. Zora Singh, Chairman of the Group while paying rich tributes to his father said that Desh Bhagat Group derives strength and inspiration from him. The institution being run in his memory always try to imbibe values and ethics which were dear to this great personality and try to nurture the same in their students.
